Smoking has been long discussed as a relaxation habit. I have heard many people say how much they like the high they feel when they lite up a cigarette.  They proclaim with high integrity how good it is.  Is it really? Although you get a euphoric high, the affects on your body are detrimental. It’s like taking two steps forwards and then four steps back.

Let us take a look at some grusome facts about a cigarette and the nicotine it has.

A cigarette has 4000 different harsh chemicals, “4000!”, nicotine being the primary one.  Each time we lite up, we take in 1-2 mg of nicotine. This makes the smoker experience a euphoric high by stimulating the adrenal glands and secreting endorphins, also known as adrenaline.  The rush of adrenaline stimulates the body causing an increase in blood pressure, respiration and heart rate.  Nicotine also causes us to release dopamine in the brain.  Dopamine is responsible for sensations of pleasure. This is also similar to other psycho drugs.

I have heard a lot of people say that nicotine helps them think better or lose weight. There are many alternatives that will help you think better or lose weight. Alternatives that are much more healthier for you.  In reality, nothing really good comes from liting up a cigarette.  The detriment that it causes in the long run, such as lung cancer and heart disease, just to name a few, could not be worth the feeling one gets from a euphoric high.

Good health is only obtained when you make a conscience effort to take into your body only what it needs in a healthy way. Each day you must make that conscience choice.

Emotions play a key role in how you handle your health. For example, some people say they smoke when they are nervous or upset. Their claim is that the smoking helps calm them. Again, it’s in your thinking process.  Realizing your emotional state will aid you in taking better steps to be healthy.  Next time you want to lite up a cigarette, remember that you are the one in control. You will be better at empowering your emotions if you are empowering your thoughts first. Empowering your emotions is a simple thinking process that you discipline yourself to do. Buying self help books and reading different ideas to understand your emotions will enable thoughts that you need to empower yourself; and they really do work.

You can stop smoking if you really want to. It will be the best thing you can do for your health.  I know, I did it.
