We all want a strong immune system that will help our bodies fight against diseases and infections. A strong immune system depends on a number of factors, but you can be sure that your eating and lifestyle habits play a pivotal role. You can strengthen your body's system by eating the right kind of foods. Here are 5 foods that can boost your immune system:

Broccoli - broccoli is loaded with nutrients and vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber, calcium, protein, potassium, iron and lutein. Not only does it boost the immune system, it also reduces the risk of infections, heart diseases and diabetes among many others. It also contains cancer fighting substances.

Garlic - Garlic boosts the immune system as a result of its sulfur containing compounds. It protects the body from bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections, and it is also credited with fighting heart disease as well as lowering the blood pressure.

Fish (tuna, sardines) - the spotlight here is on the omega 3 fatty acids that you can get from eating these foods. The omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation in the body and boosts the body's immune system.

Beef - yes I am talking about lean beef here. Beef contains zinc, which is a great immune booster. Zinc in ones diet is extremely important as it promotes the production of white blood cells, which are responsible for destroying bacteria and some viruses in the body. There are alternatives to beef, so you can also get zinc from pork, poultry, milk or yogurt.

Mushrooms - Mushrooms are also in the forefront when it comes to boosting your body. They increase the productivity and activity of white blood cells.
