College Freshman alert: you'll soon have be living in your very first home away from home. Get ready to infuse some personality into your dorm room with these must have dorm room decor ideas.

You're going to spend a lot of time in your dorm room--what do you want it to say about you? Here are 5 cool decorating ideas to make it really stand out.

1.Bedding.Start with a brand new comforter. Choose one in your favorite color or with a great design. Down is especially warm and luxurious so go for this if it's in your budget. Down comforters are usually white, so get a stylish duvet cover to top it off.

2. At your feet. You'll want to have a small rug to sit on. Hit the big name carpet outlets and check out remnants and small area rugs. If you find a great remnant, have it bound around the edges so it wont shed.

3. Let there be light.Your desk will need to have a very good light source for all those late night study sessions and also to prevent eye strain. Spend some time looking at desk lamps that are not only practical but stylish to boot.

4. Dress up your wall.Think of your bare dorm room wall as a blank canvas. Use removable wall decals or a small peel and stick wall mural to make a big decorating statement. Find a great image that captures your vibe, so to speak, and hang it safely on the wall.

5. Leave a message.Get a dry erase board to hang on the outside of your door. You can write a line from your favorite song and switch it out with a memorable quote the next day. Or you can let everyone know what you're doing right now a la Facebook. Leave a marker out for friends to respond!

Use these tips as a guide to find the perfect dorm room decor that reflects your personality and style.
