Junk foods are those that are ready to be consumed foods that contain very high levels of sugar, salt, or saturated fats; they can actually be devoid of fruits, dietary fiber, and even vegetables. The informal term "junk food" has been applied to foods that have no nutritional value, or if ever they have, it is on a very low level. They are really perceived as something unhealthy when taken on a regular basis, and for those who are not considered healthy and consume junk foods often, are also thought of as doing something really bad to their body.

What is it really in junk foods that is considered bad? Hamburgers, chocolate, ice cream, hot dogs, French fries, pizza, and cake, what could possible go wrong with them, right? Well, actually, a lot can go wrong with them.

The following are the 5 things that each one of us should know about the foods we lovingly consume almost everyday of our lives. It is better to understand each thing so that the next time you eat one, you will think about the possible outcome. Read on.

  • Junk foods actually contain too much fat, saturated fats, in fact. And too much saturated fat in our diet will definitely cause us to put on more weight which can lead to obesity. Being obese, or overweight, can be fatal for our health, since it can cause heart problems and other diseases. Saturated fats and trans fats will be dispersed in our body and can eventually lead to fat build up in our blood and then gradually will increase our blood pressure.

  • They contain too much sugar. Junks like cordials, cakes, biscuits, soft drinks, and lollies—these are all loaded with sugar, lots and lots of them actually. Since sugar is the power that makes them tastes oh so good. But then, like saturated fats, sugar can also makes us fat, it can rot our teeth, and too much sugar is really bad for our blood, and again may cause diseases. Sugar can also puts you to the risk of having osteoporosis; and when it is stores in our liver, as glucose, it will also be fatal if our liver got over stored by sugar. The liver can take only a particular amount of sugar. One more thing, sugar takes time to get burn off.

  • Junk foods also have too much salt in them. We are already getting our share of salt when we eat breakfast cereals, cakes, biscuits, and even in bread. So when we consume junks, we are actually adding more salt in our body. And this is very unhealthy for the heart. An increase in salt in our body can also lead to water retention. When our body retains the salty water in our blood, this in turn will increase our blood pressure. You see, our body requires only a small amount of salt intake in order to function properly. When we put too much salt on our body, then the balance between fluid outgo and intake will then be disturbed, this will turn in kidney diseases and edema.

  • The 4th and the 5th, this is so important that this factor is actually equivalent in to two warnings, is that junk food can actually clog our brain, especially for the young ones.  Some scientists are claiming that a diet of junks can really affect the children's brain power. They also feared that fried and processed foods can not only threaten the young ones' physical health, but it can also take a toll on their developing minds' capacity, too. There is really a tendency for the brain to get permanently damaged. Since, some of these junks may also include toxic fats; therefore this makes the clogging of the brain. And to make this thing simple, our brain will actually get thicker which in turn will not make it function properly and as what is needed by the body.

So, your next question might be, should we totally stop eating junk foods? Well, the answer here will not be a yes or a no one. It will have to be this—anything that is taken too much is never good. If there is a chance for you to eat some, you should have precautionary measures now that you know the facts about junks.
