This year over 2 million weddings are taking place in the US alone. That means that there are an equal number of best men who are (or has been) in your shoes (yes, that’s 1.999.999… and you).

Like yourself, all of them will go through the process of writing a Best Man Speech. Well, about half a million of them will probably just think”Screw the notes, I’ll improvise”… with catastrophic and embarrassing results. Others will scribble down the entire story from age 3, ramble on for 35 minutes and cause the whole wedding dinner to totally freeze up. We can both agree that these guys won’t capture the hearts of the wedding guests or the bridal couple for that matter.

But then we have the smart guys. They want to deliver a Best Man Speech that makes an impression and make the bride and groom and all the guests feel amazed and moved by their speech. They want the guests to come up to them afterwards and say”That was by far the best Best Man Speech I have ever heard”. These guys put in the time and effort, sits down and go at it in a structured way. Are you one of these guys?

Here are eight great tips on how to write a truly memorable and heartwarming best man speech.

1. Be prepared
Preparation is the key to a successful speech. Since you’re the best man, you’ve probably know the groom for a very long time and knows both his good (and bad) sides. Just start as soon as possible to write down specific anecdotes and stories from your past that would beboth funny and appropriateto tell at the wedding. Also remember to include the bride in the speech. Although the best man speech is for the groom, you’ll really need to know a thing or two of his bride to entertain and please the other half of the wedding guests.

2. Stay sober
Well, we’ve all done it! Said or done something inappropriate due to having a drink too much at the wrong place at the wrong time. I can’t tell you too many times, KEEP THE ALCOHOL TO A MINIMUM BEFORE THE SPEECH. If you’re drunk, the guest will undoubtedly feel awkward, embarrassed and just feel sorry for you during your speech. It’s the worst way ever to ruin the bridal couple’s special day.

3. Introduce yourself
Although you’re probably surrounded by many friends and people you know, always start by introducing yourself and mention your relationship to the groom. Otherwise you’ll probably having people at the dinner wondering;”Who the hell is that guy”and won’t appreciate or get the jokes and stories you tell.

4. Thank all the members in the wedding party
Always remember to give gratitude to everyone in the wedding party for making this special day possible. Everyone loves gratitude and shedding some extra light on these guys and girls, will make you a very memorable Best Man.

5. The unexpected twists
Everyone tells more or less flattering stories about the groom in their best man speech, but what really sets an ok speech apart from an amazing one are the unexpecting twists. Put in the time to find the “cliffhangers”, the “roundabout” or the “bridepleaser”.

6. Try something new
It’s easy to just do what everyone else has done by standing up and deliver your speech at the table. Why not walk out amongst the guests and include them in the action? Just by walking around the room you add a feeling of excitement of both the guests and the bridal couple.

7. Keep it short
As said in the beginning, preparation is the most important key to a successful speech. With good preparation you’ll be able to keep your speech within the 5-minute-mark. Remember that the guests already have heard a couple (or many) speeches before yours and might be halfway to the dessert table at the time of your speech. By preparing and going through your best man speech at least a couple of times before the big day, and you instantly notice if it’s too long and needs some adjustments.

8. End in style and top it with a toast
“It’s never too late to screw up”, are someone’s famous words. A brilliant speech can be remembered for all the wrong reasons if you make a poor finish. Make sure you end in a serious and truthful manner. One of the safest ways is to end with an quote or a short poem, but the important thing is that it sums up what you feel about the groom and his beautiful bride.

With these ground rules there’s no match to write a great best man speech. For more help with your best man speech, visit " target="_self" TopBestManSpeeches.com
