When you are trying to get to sleep, having a snoring partner in bed with you is an issue. It is bothersome as well as unhealthy. The good news is that there are ways to put a stop to your snoring troubles. These 8 techniques can help you to stop snoring for good.
1. What you can try first to stop snoring is pretty simple - elevate your head when you lie down to sleep. Use a fluffier pillow, or multiple pillows to accomplish this, or even try sitting up a bit as you sleep.
2. If you usually take a muscle relaxer of any sort before you "hit the hay," you may inadvertently be causing the problem. This holds true for alcoholic beverages, sleeping pills, or any antihistamines with the effect that they cause drowsiness. When your muscles relax, your airway can become constricted. Avoid doing it.
3. Another culprit to cause snoring is any dairy products. Dairy products can lead to a buildup of mucus in your airway, which can very easily lead to a full night's worth of snoring away.
4. A cause for snoring that many overlook is being overweight, providing yet another good reason to lose a few pounds. This extra weight can lead to a blocked airway, which can lead to snoring as your body struggles for breath.
5. If you try sleeping on your side, you may stop snoring due to the way this position opens up the airway. It may be hard for you at first to sleep this way, but to prevent rolling onto your back, you can tie or even sew a tennis ball in place, onto the back of your shirt. This may sound odd, but the truth is that the discomfort that the tennis ball causes may help you remain in the correct position.
6. Tying in to losing weight, you may need to stop eating large meals just before bed. This habit will lead to your stomach pushing upwards on your diaphragm, which may limit your capacity to breathe easily.
7. If you are congested, or have mucus built up, you may be prone to snore. In order to reduce this effect, you should try to breathe in steam from a hot bath, or plug in a humidifier by your bed as you sleep. This will add moisture to your throat and alleviate this issue.
8. If you are a smoker, then here is another reason that you will want to quit. Smoking can lead to snoring. Try not to smoke just before bedtime. Smoking will contribute to an inflamed and swollen throat, making a stop snoring effort useless in the end.
