Acne skin care includes choosing the right soap. Selecting the right soap can be difficult – there are so many to choose from! It is best to choose a soap which is specially formulated for the face from a natural organic skincare range.

Avoid medicated soaps or harsh general household soaps. These can be very alkaline and can strip the skin of its protective acid layer. This can result in dryness, sensitivity and even infection. Instead, you can buy "soapless soaps" or cleansing bars which are PH neutral and are gentler on the skin.

Washing your face twice a day is best regardless of your skin type or the condition of your skin. Wash your face in the morning and again at night before going to bed. Washing more frequently has no benefit and can cause your skin to dry out and become inflamed and red.

Do not use medicated soaps – these can dry out your skin and are not necessary.

Wash your face with warm water and a small amount of soapy lather. Using water that is too hot or too cold can damage the skin and cause it to become dry.

Here are some tips for washing your face:

1) Wet the soap using lukewarm water.

2) Work the soap into a lather and apply it to your skin using gentle circular motions using either your fingertips or a soft facecloth.

3) Use fresh lukewarm water to remove the lather from your face. Splash the water over your face until all the soap is gone.

4) Pat your face dry using a clean soft towel.

Once you have finished washing your face, ensure that your soap is dry before storing it away in its own container. Skin conditions can be passed on through soap so do not share your soap with anyone.

Soap is a good all round cleanser if you have spots on your chest, back or shoulders as well as your face. If you find that soap leaves your face feeling tight and dry, try another brand or choose a face wash or cleanser for your face and use the soap on the rest of your body.

You should see an improvement in your skin condition as a result of choosing a natural acne soap and following this routine for acne skin care.
