The main types of tinnitus noise
Although tinnitus causes different sound for different sufferers, there are some sounds which are very common amongst large groups of people. These types of sounds are far more likely to indicate you have tinnitus and hence that you need to seek a tinnitus treatment.
1. Ringing sound
The classic tinnitus sound is a ringing in the ears. In fact, the word tinnitus comes from the Latin word for ringing. Ringing in the ears can be caused by an excess of noise, such as extremely loud music, which over-stimulates the ear drum and produces the ringing sound. This usually only lasts for a short time until the ears have a chance to settle down again. However, if you are exposed to the loud noise for too long, i.e. several hours, it may cause permanent damage to the ear drum resulting in slightly impaired hearing. However, this may not lead to tinnitus immediately but could result in the condition developing at some time in the future.
If the ringing sound persists for several weeks or months then the likelihood is that you have tinnitus and need to find a tinnitus treatment.
2. Buzzing sound
This is a very irritating sound rather like a bee flying close to the ear. It can affect one or both ears and be so disturbing that it affects the persons sleep. The sound is usually at its worst when you are in a quiet environment because you naturally tune in to the sound more which has the effect of making it seem much louder.
For some people the tinnitus causes the sound to come and go or just fade for a short time. In either case, if the buzzing continues for any amount of time seek a tinnitus cure.
3. Hissing sound
Another of the really irritating types of sound tinnitus causes is hissing. This has been likened to steam rapidly escaping a kettle. Like the buzzing, when the hissing sound is constant the affect on a person is quite dramatic resulting in insomnia, lack of concentration and other disorienting side effects.
