Up until recently, if you were suffering from hypotrichosis, a condition involving inadequate or sparse eyelashes, there was no federally approved remedy for cosmetically enhancing your eyelashes. Fortunately, in December 2008, the FDA approved a thrilling new product called Latisse™ to help treat hypotrichosis. Latisse™ helps to lengthen, thicken, and darken existing eyelashes. Inadequate or sparse eyelash growth can often cause embarrassment, a feeling of insecurity, or social discomfort. Artificial lashes can be an inconvenience and cause irritation. Latisse™ is a safe and effective way to enhance short, thin lashes. How Does Latisse™ Work? Latisse™ works gradually and effectively by lengthening the growth phase of eyelashes, as well as increasing the number of hairs that grow during that phase. Latisse™ is a topical solution that is applied nightly to the eyelids for four months. Before applying Latisse™ to your eyelids you should: - Thoroughly wash your face to ensure that it is clean.
- Remove makeup, leaving no oily residue.
- Take out contact lenses.
- Place one drop of Latisse™ on tip of applicator.
- Draw applicator along skin of the eyelid margin- where the eyelashes meet the skin.
- Repeat the process on the other eye.
It is important to apply the Latisse™ to only the upper eyelid, due to possible side effects on the lower eyelid. It is recommended to apply Latisse™ nightly, as it works best while you sleep, absorbing into the eyelid skin, which contains the eyelash hair follicles. What Should I Expect? Latisse™ is a gradual solution that produces full results in 12 to 16 weeks. Most patients start to see their eyelashes getting longer, darker, and fuller after 8 weeks. There are some mild side effects such as itchy eyes and eye redness. However, most users found they went away after accustoming themselves to the proper use of the product. When Latisse™ is used according to the directions it is a very safe and effective product that will visibly improve your eyelashes. Consultation with Eye Care Professionals It is important with any prescription treatment to thoroughly consult with licensed and knowledgeable professionals. They can work out a treatment that is best suited to you and your needs and will guide you through the process.
