There are different methods that people use to quit smoking, such as quitting ‘cold turkey' and using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). The use of hypnotherapy for smoking cessation is very popular and according to a research presented to the American College of Chest Physicians on Oct 22, 2007, 50 percent of the people who choose to quit smoking by hypnotherapy stopped smoking after a single session of with telephone calls at different intervals to follow-up. Important left-out details of this study are available at hypos.co.uk.

Hypnosis is based on the communication between the therapist and you, and it does not involve the use of any type of drugs. A hypnotized person displays several unusual characteristics, one of which is that he becomes very open to suggestion (hyper-suggestibility). The hypnotherapist uses this quality of the brain to help you quit smoking. Hypnotherapy experts hypnotize through verbal communication. The conversion generally starts with a suggestion of deep relaxation.

In order to quit smoking with hypnosis, you can meet a hypnotherapist to discuss your smoking related problems. You can tell the specialist why you want to give up smoking, and the excuses and reasons that stop you from becoming a non-smoker. This information will be used by the therapist when he performs hypnotherapy on you.

In the hypnotized state, your subconscious mind will be the target of the hypnotherapist, who will attempt to alter or reset your feelings about smoking.

Another option that you have is that of self-hypnosis. Recorded hypnotherapy programs created by professional hypnotherapists are available online.

For a person looking to quit smoking, hypnotherapy provides a drug-free and effective solution.
