We live in a day and age in which we can find whatever we need at our fingertips. Fortunately for smokers, quit smoking products are no exception to this rule. Grocery store shelves boast many different brands of products that are supposed to help you stop smoking: nicotine gum, nicotine patches, nicotine lozenges, nicotine sprays. And these products are not limited to nicotine replacement therapy aids (or NRT aids), either. There are also countless books and instructional DVDs and other methods available to anyone who wants to quit smoking. Considering the wealth of products available, every smoker should be able to find the resources to help him or her quit.

Of all quit smoking products, the most well-known these days is probably the NRT aids. The most popular of these are the nicotine patches and nicotine gum. They work to curb cravings by releasing controlled amounts of nicotine into the smoker's bloodstream. The amount of nicotine administered is gradually decreased until the smoker is able to function without any nicotine at all. The nicotine takes the edge off of the cigarette craving that the smoker has, making it easier to win a victory over the temptation to smoke, which usually boosts the smoker's confidence in his or her ability to control his or her dependence on nicotine and cigarettes.

Only slightly less popular than NRT aids are books on how to quit smoking and other quit smoking methods. These quit smoking products are designed to help the smoker deal with the psychological aspect of the addiction. This will help the smoker to maintain focus on the objective: to quit smoking, and to quit it forever. It can do this by encouraging the smoker to stay the course, by reminding the smoker of all the reasons that he or she decided to quit in the first place, and offering helpful tips and advice on how to fight off the urges when they come.

But since every smoker is different, it often takes a variety of quit smoking products to form a quitting strategy that will work for each individual. It's important for the smoker to put together a strategy based on his or her unique needs. If this requires a combination of NRT aids, books and methods, then there's no shame in that. What's important is for the smoker to get all the necessary help to achieve the goal of kicking the habit once and for all.
