There are many different ways to seek panic attack relief – through therapies, physical activity, medications, breathing techniques, thought patterns, relaxation techniques and more.

But what about through your diet?  Could you find some relief by changing some of things that you eat?  Yes – it’s certainly very possible.

While there is no official diet for panic attacks, there are some foods and drinks that can contribute to the attacks – and there are some foods and drinks that can even help relieve the attacks.

Certain foods, drinks and additives that can trigger elevated anxiety levels in your body include alcohol, monosodium glutamate (MSG) (mostly found in many Asian foods and some packaged foods), caffeine (mostly found in coffees, sodas, teas and even some over-the-counter medicines) and refined sugar (found in a whole lot of things).

Now, this doesn’t mean that any of those will cause panic attacks.  But, if you already suffer from these attacks, they could help trigger them.

I know it’s hard to cut out all of those items, but just reducing your intake of them could make a small difference.  And, if you continue to reduce them more over time, you may even see a big difference.

So, what food or drink intake could actually help with your attacks?

For one thing, chamomile is a very popular calming herb since it contains mild sedative properties.  You can easily purchase chamomile tea at the grocery store.

And another helpful item, surprise surprise, is…water.  Yes, you’ve heard of water’s many great qualities, but did you know that it can also help reduce your feelings of anxiety while contributing to your overall health?  As they say, drinking plenty of water can help improve your health.

So, even if you start small with a couple of dietary changes, you’ll be heading in the right direction.
