Or in this case Cancerous Cells

Adults tell children to eat their fruits and vegetables, so that they will grow up to be strong well-adjusted grown-ups.  However, the truth is even some grown-ups don't like to eat their daily dose of veggies either. What these adults probably don't know is that fruits and vegetables contain phytonutrients that could help prevent disease such as, cancer, heart disease, or even strokes.

Phytonutrients are natural components from plants that can potentially play a role in human health.  There have been thousands of these different natural immune system boosters identified. Scientists have grouped the different types of phytonutrients into families to help study and understand them.

Citrus fruits like, pineapples, lemons, and oranges have high vitamin C content. They also act as hosts to a number of phytonutrients that prevent cancerous cells from clumping together and spreading. One of these phytonutrients is called limonene. In studies, limonene has been shown to reduce the growth of mammary tumors, and even help fight inflammation that causes arthritis, asthma and other allergies.

Vegetables that belong to the cabbage family such as brussel sprouts, broccoli, and kale are not only full of vitamin C, but also contain phytonutrients such as brassinin. Brassinin is a nutrient that helps decrease tumors of the skin and breasts.

One way to make sure you are taking in plenty of phytonutrients is to eat a variety of colors. This is because phytonutrients such as lycopene give vegetables, and fruits their colorful pigments. Lycopene is what gives tomatoes their rich red color. However, foods with close to no pigment such as soybeans, and cauliflower are also filled with phytonutrients to help you build a healthy immune system .

Food processing can destroy and remove beneficial phytonutrients, so eating fresh or minimally cooked fruits and vegetables is the best way to get a healthy dose of these wholesome nutrients!
