Doxycycline is an antibiotic and belongs to the group tetracycline. It is sometimes prescribed as a treatment for acne and is therefore also known as doxycycline acne. Since bacteria are the most common cause of acne in many people, this antibiotic can prove to be effective for its treatment. A 50 mg doxycycline tablet can be taken twice a day to cure moderate acne. However, you should never take any antibiotics before consulting a doctor. This is particularly important for pregnant and lactating women as antibiotics have serious side effects associated with their consumption. Do not start the course of doxycycline acne if you are taking other medications for the treatment of severe acne or cystic acne. Keep in mind that you cannot discontinue using an antibiotic medicine before the course has completed. It is therefore strongly and repeatedly advised that you see a doctor before consuming any kind of medication and particularly antibiotics. Doxycycline acne is also sometimes prescribed for the treatment of cystic acne as it is also used for curing other inflammatory disorders like pelvic inflammatory disease. Side effects of this medicine include photosensitivity skin reaction, stomach disorders and disorder of the liver. If taken in pregnancy, this antibiotic can cause serious damage to the baby. Similarly, breast-feeding women should avoid it at all costs. It can affect a child’s normal growth if given to children under the age of 8. If you suffer from conditions like hypertension and high blood pressure, it is advisable to try rub-on treatments for the cure of acne instead of oral medication. There are alternative acne treatments available out there and unless you suffer from an extreme severe case of acne you should avoid oral antibiotics for dangers of side effects and other complications. One of these treatments is known by the name of Zeno acne clearing device. This is a thermal acne treatment without any side effects which can cure occasional pimples that appear on face in a matter of hours.
