World over, when a couple choose to go their separate ways, courts grant custody to the mother. The father is sadly deprived of the pleasure of watching his children grow up. He only gets visitation rights, which many fathers think of as being too little time and grossly unfair. If you have already given up and are convinced it's pointless fighting for custody of your children, pause for a moment, you too are a parent. You have as much right to your child as your wife does. Just because you happen to be the father, your rights are not revoked. Let us examine how a father can get custody of his children.

Stay Involved with Your Children

If you are in the throes of divorcing your spouse and there are children involved you are in all likelihood in the midst of a custody dispute as well. But your estranged relationship with your spouse should not sour your relationship with your children as well. Stay close to them. It is good for you and the children. Further, the law will see you in a kinder light.

Spend a lot of time with your children. Be involved in their everyday activities. Show the world that as a parent you are involved, dedicated and reliable. No matter how good your attorney is, he will be unable to get the father get custody of his children if the courts see him as a negligent and indifferent parent.

Keep Records

Make notes of all the issues related to current status of the relationship with your children and soon to be former wife. Document every possible detail. Record time spent with your children, activities participated in and places visited. If your spouse indulges in any kind of abusive behavior or says unpleasant things, make a note of that too. Keep your records organized and up to date. Courts appreciate method and this would give you an edge over your spouse.

Be a Good Provider

So your wife and you have opted to live in different houses. Nevertheless, make sure your children are well taken care of when they come to visit. Maintain your premises well; make their living conditions comfortable and congenial. Also be a good provider, financially. Let the courts know that you are happy to pay for their well being. This is one of the methods employed to encourage the courts to let the father get custody of his children.

Hire an Attorney

Last but not least, if you are a prosperous man, hire the best possible lawyer you can get a hold of. However, if you not a rich man, like most of us aren't, you will have to look elsewhere. Fortunately, there are custody experts who offer their services at a reasonable price. I suggest you tap into them. They are known to have been successful at winning cases. They just may be the answer to help a father get custody of his children.
