The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) is direct support program that helps people living with disabilities and are in financial scarcity. It provides assistance especially in the food and housing. Its legislation defines to cater financial and income support to the "persons with kind of disability." It basically pays on the monthly basis in the form of fixed amount for basic needs, and a variable and limited amount for shelter. The beneficiaries are paid to the "benefit unit" to the related persons. So the amount of benefit would be larger for the higher needs of shelter. There is a range of benefits available under the ODSP for the eligible people. Some of these benefits include free prescription medicine, free dental care, free hearing tests and other care devices. The recipient must be at least 18 years of age to avail these benefits. Their number is increasing on this program with the inclusion of parents, spouse, same-sex partner and other family members. This program mainly helps under the two categories, such as income support and employment support. It is being monitored by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. This program is meant to provide adequate support to the eligible persons. To examine the eligibility of income support program, the representatives take certain qualification tests. The Ontario Disability Support Program workers take your and your family's personal as well as financial information including part of your family, number of the members, income source and dependence of the spouse and other near and dear ones. The affected people have to produce the documents related to domicile, assets and income source. There are some other supports including Canada Pension Plan benefit or child support. You may be asked to give or show some other necessary information related to the birth certificate, social insurance numbers, Ontario health card numbers, housing income and asset documents. Under the employment support, there are some types of ODSP supports that include preparation for work, help in finding a right job, job coaching, on-the-job training, supply of the software and mobility devices to help in the work, transportation assistance, etc. In this program you need to work in coordination with a community service to figure out what kinds of supports you require to keep on your job. It also demands certain eligibility from the side of candidates. Overall, Ontario Disability Support Program is a broad and ambitious plan to provide a lot of external assistance to the deserving people.
