What is Meditation? How does one achieve the state of Meditation!

These are some of the basic questions that a person asks if he or she wants to enter into the domain of Meditation.

A lot of people have wrong conception that only saints and yogis can practice Meditation, and is irrelevant to the rest of the world. They feel that a normal person cannot practice Meditation.

Well let me tell you that these are nothing but wrong conceptions. So let me explain you what exactly is Meditation and how can one practice it in his day to day life.

Meditation is mainly a state in which a person distracts himself from his physical self and goes into his mental self. He forgets, about his physical and worldly desires and concentrates upon his inner or subconscious self.

By doing so he enters his spiritual self and sees the world from a different angle. He visualizes himself and sees whether the activity he is performing is right or not. Another advantage of Meditation is that a person becomes a lot refreshed after practicing it. His mind becomes cool and peaceful.

Generally, a person gets tired by performing two kinds of activities. One is the physical activity i.e. labor work and the other being mental activity i.e. office work, studying etc. Mental activity being more tiresome, as mind is the one which controls the whole body.

It has been proved scientifically that if a person practices constant Meditation, his mental tiresome seems to go away easily. The person becomes more and more relaxed and thus can concentrate better in his activities.

Now, comes the major question that how does one practice Meditation?

Meditation should be practiced in a step by step process. One cannot master it in few days. It needs to be regularly practiced and performed.

For beginners, the first major step is to sit down calmly for 5-10 minutes. This eases the tension in his body. Then practice slow deep breathing, and while practicing don't think about the external world at all. Try to be relaxed and concentrate on how you are breathing. Watch your breath.

Do this exercise for a couple of weeks. Don't jump further. Practice it regularly. After practicing it you would find a radical change in yourself.
