Sex Selective Abortion is one big stigma the modern world still faces many times in different cultures and geographical distributions. It is more easily understood by son selective and females discriminative abortion and cases like these continue to report today in a increasing number specially in the under developed societies where women don't have equal rights to jobs and having a boy is considered a pride. Targeted abortion of sex seletive fetuses is promoted even more through the hospitals and clinics where sex disclosure during the initial months ultrasound scan is considered a part of the package and couples pay extra to find out about the gender of the fetus which evetually results in termination of the process incase the unfortunate fetus has female sex on scan . To add to the misery this brutal act is not limited only to the undeveloped and less privileged part of earth infact this spreads to the developed world as well, though cases are sporadic. These practices mainly arise in areas where cultural norms value male children over female children. Societies that practice sex selection in favor of males are quite common, especially in countries like the People's Republic of China, Korea, Taiwan, and India. Studies and reasearch has proved that cultural implications play a major role in sex discrimination even more then socioeconomic situation because such deviations in sex ratios do not exist in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean where socioeconomic situation is not very stable. Looking into historic data one can appreciate that sex-selective abortion was rare before the late 20th century, because of the difficulty of determining the sex of the fetus before birth, identification of modern methods and medical advancements like ultrasound have made such selection easier. However, prior to this, parents would alter family sex compositions through infanticide. Even today, there are no scientifically proven and commercialized practices that allow confirmed gender detection during the first trimester, ultrasound is still not very reliable until approximately the 20th week of pregnancy which even worsens the scenario due to the fact that it causes increment in the rates of termination of pregnancy just about close to the time of Viability. All in all this Sex selective abortion needs more awareness to be spread and needs more forums for discussions whereby communities can develop the understanding and women where ever are suppresed due to cultural norms and rituals and forced for abortion can develop courage to stand up and speak out against this sad scenario.
