Acneis a skin disease caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and sebaceous gland).Acneis most common during adolescence, affecting more than 85% of teenagers, and sometimes continuing into adulthood.

For most people,acnewill go away over time as it tends to disappear or decrease after a person reaches his or her early twenties. There are, however, some individuals who will continue to suffer from acne well into their thirties, forties and beyond. The face and upper neck are the most commonly affected areas, but the chest, back and shoulders may haveacneas well.

Aside from scarring, the main effects ofacneare psychological, such as reduced self-esteem which could lead to depression and, in some cases, suicide. Early and aggressive treatment is therefore advocated by some to lessen the overall impact to individuals.

Several factors are known to be linked toacneincluding:

* Heredity or family genetic history

* Hormonal activity such as puberty and menstrual cycles

* Accumulation of dead skin cells

* Bacteria in the pores

* Stress

* Steroid use

Many treatments are available foracne, either over-the-counter or as prescribed by a physician. The treatments that we seldom hear of are theall natural remedieswhich can be quite effective in combination with a healthy diet and good personal hygiene.
