Acne is a common issue and about 80% of the people experience it at least once in their life. There are a lot of acne myths which surround us. To get rid of acne, it is necessary to bust every myth about acne. Let's have a look at some popular acne myths.

Acne Myth #1Acne is caused by chocolate and other food items like pizza, fries etc. One of the most popular acne myths! Contrary to the popular belief, there is no proof that acne is caused by consumption of chocolate and other food stuff. Chocolate has been held responsible for your pimples and zits since ages, but the truth is very much different. Acne does not cause or aggravate acne or pimples. So if you have been afraid to eat your favorite chocolate bar due to these acne myths, go ahead and enjoy it!

Acne Myth #2Squeezing and popping the pimples can help you to get rid of acne. Wrong! This is one of the most popular acne myths. The fact is, if you sqeeue the pimples and zits, the infected liquid will be driven to more depth inside the skin and acne might increase. Popping your zits will make scars on your skin which are difficult to get rid of.

Acne Myth #3Sun reduces acne. Many believe that getting a tan will reduce their acne infection, which is not correct. If you expose your skin to sunlight for long time, you may develop a dry skin with a lot of rashes. This applies specially to kids. Being aware of acne myths helps to cure it faster.

Acne Myth #4Washing acne affected skin frequently reduces acne. Many people believe that if they wash their acne prone skin many times a day, acne will be cured. Wrong. Washing your face 2-3 times a day is more than sufficient and if you wash your face a lot, it may produce more oil and it might lead to aggravated acne.

Acne Myth #5Acne is only for teenagers and it will go away with time. This is one of the most believed acne myths. Adults & kids can develop acne too. While it's true that most teens have acne but acne depends on a lot of other factors like hormones, hygiene, diet, pollution, stress and genetic factors. Anybody can have acne and instead of waiting to grow out of acne, it's best to do something about it.

Acne Myth #6Consulting a doctor is not necessary. If you have acne, it is better to consult a doctor or a dermatologist. If not treated properly, acne might grow into it's severe form and cause the skin to look ugly. Although mild acne cases are easily cured by natural remedies and over the counter acne products , it is still better to consult a skin specialist.

Acne Myth #7One of the most widespread acne myths is – Acne is caused by sex. There is no scientific proof that sex increases acne. Sex or masturbation has nothing to do with acne. Indulging in sex does not aggravate acne in any way.

These are some popular myths about acne. Now that you know about these acne myths, curing acne will be much easier. Let's look at some more useful resources on acne.
