The medical advances that have been made in the area of cancer research over the last several decades have been nothing short of amazing. However, is it enough? Today, there continue to be countless numbers of people who are diagnosed and who suffer the consequences of intense treatments for various forms of cancer, some of which are not yet curable. And while doctors are continuing to make advances in the medical arena, more research needs to be done, which means that fundraising efforts really need to start happening more frequently.
Years ago, if you were diagnosed with cancer, there wasn't much hope. All that the doctors might have been able to do was make you as comfortable as possible. However, today, there have been countless studies conducted and research has advanced so much along with technology, that many people are able to live with a cancer diagnosis until they are eventually cured of cancer. And while we have come a long way, we still have a long way to go.
This means raising cancer awareness through the purchase of small things such as purple ribbon bears and pink ribbons to large scale things such as monetary donations to charity or organizing a massive fundraising event such as a 5k road race for a cure.
There is no doubt that one day, medical advances will give way to a cure for all forms of cancer, reducing a cancer diagnosis down to nothing more than the ‘common cold,' but for now, we must continue to fight to raise awareness so that others around us who are diagnosed with cancer may still have some quality of life. This means improved treatments, earlier diagnosis and the proper medical tools that are needed to eradicate cancer completely.
While there is much speculation as to what causes cancer, no one person is entirely sure. For some, the cause is thought to be stress related while for others, it is thought to be a hereditary problem while for others, it is thought to be related to the environment that they live in (i.e. Pollution, etc.) And while no one cause can be pinned down as of yet, with the help of so many people in raising money for cancer research, it is the thought of numerous people that we are on the cusp of discovering a cure once and for all for cancer.
