It is believed that mother's touch has the capacity to heal. Right after birth a baby gets accustomed to the mother's loving touch and snuggles close to her for comfort. Alcohol treatment center tries to grasp the inner meaning of this healing effect caused by the loving touch of another person. Socially too we shake hands, pat people and generally touch each other to express love or sympathy or other emotions. As part of a holistic form of treatment alcoholism treatment center aims at involving the therapy induced by touch into the realm of their treatment. Let us assume an alcoholic has just passed the stage where he has been treated for withdrawal. After this his physical self and his mental self will be in need of rejuvenation. Medicines help as do exercises and counseling but here the alcohol treatment centers call in specialists in holistic treatments to hasten the recovery process and build up a strong inner persona. One of the therapies found to be effective is "touch" therapy. The Bible and scriptures do mention "laying of hands" as a means of healing. Even today we find quite a few Christian faith healing experts who will lay hands while praying and this has worked miracles in those who have not responded to conventional treatments. Another form of this "laying of hands" or touch therapy is Reiki, which is more refined and focused. Reiki is an ancient touch therapy refined by the Japanese. Reiki is said to revitalize the spirit and the body. The Reiki therapist himself is full of love, compassion and positive life energy and through touch transfers this energy to the recipient to enable him to connect to a divine being which helps in renewal and healing. The patient may either lie down or sit and the Reiki expert will place hands on certain parts, transferring vital energy to the recipient. These sessions last for an hour or so and are given every day to promote natural healing. Reiki touch therapy as practiced at these centers helps in promoting natural self-healing, relieves pain, clears harmful poisons from the body's system, strengthens the immune system, releases blocked energies and above all it enhances a personal awareness in the person being treated. The patient feels calm and serene and feels relieved of his pains and stresses. He is more in control of himself. His mind is clear. He has developed a positive outlook and now only needs to be guided in the right direction with the correct amount of support to enable him to be a normal, healthy person. This touch therapy is not designed to work all by itself. This type of therapy is an adjunct to the other treatments which are going on at alcohol treatment centers . So whether it is the Christian "laying of hands" spiritual path or the Reiki path, it is an accepted fact that this works in unexplainable ways to heal the alcoholic far better than a conventional line of treatment would.
