Green tea has been publicized over the past ten to fifteen years in the western world for having antioxidant properties. All types of tea, however, originating from plant Camellia sinensis have some degree of antioxidants. But, much like vitamins in vegetables before and after cooking, the antioxidants in tea vary with how much the tea is processed. There are numerous free radicals that can easily be found within the normal human body. When they are left alone and nothing is being done about them, many problems can arise. Catechins, which are one of the polyphenols have been well known to effectively be able to eliminate many of the toxic free radicals.

If you take green tea antioxidants, in supplement form, you don't have to worry about the caffeine content. But, a moderate dose is still recommended; 100mg or less per day for healthy adults. Higher dosages are often recommended for those suffering from type II diabetes, because the extracts improve insulin sensitivity, lower blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of diabetes complications. it is the reticence of free radicals formed during work out. Any time you do cardiovascular exercise, free radicals are made in you bodys muscle tissue. If you have an adequate supply of antioxidants around an hour before you workout your body can greatly reduce the damage from free radicals, this will in turn improve your muscular recovery.

There are many antioxidants contain in this tea, most from the catechin family, including epicatechin, epicatechin gallate and epigallocatechin. EGCG, or epigallocatechin gallate, is the most prominent antioxidant. Nearly half of the antioxidant is comprised of EGCG and it is a very potent ingredient.

Like the green tea antioxidant, resveratrol prevents free radical damage, as do common vitamins like A, C and E. But the green tea antioxidants and those found in red wine have unusual activity that the common vitamins do not.

But, the green tea antioxidant is not the only one that has been studied repeatedly. My personal goal is to strive to get as many healthy anti-oxidants and other nutrients as I possible can, every day, without exceeding my ideal caloric intake. The only way that I can do that is with a multi-nutritional supplement. The best ones contain all-natural extracts. They aren't the cheapest, but they are the most effective.

For example, resveratrol, an anti-oxidant found in red grape skins, inhibits the growth of breast cancer tumors. It has been said to interfere with all stages of carcinogenesis and prolong the life of heart cells. Zeaxanthin, which is found in marigolds, protects the eyes from degenerative diseases that can cause blindness in the elderly.

Scientific evaluation has also shown that some or all of the green tea antioxidants have anti-inflammatory activity. In animal studies, they have been shown to prevent arthritis. Inflammation also plays a role in cancer. Antioxidants are more necessary than ever before. But that's no problem because we have rich sources of antioxidants such as Green Tea to provide for us. It is to be noted that green tea naturally contains caffeine, which is known to cause insomnia, anxiety, and jitters when consumed in excess.
