In a previous article , I mentioned an inspiring trainer's concept of breaking away from one-size-fits-all "Starbucks thinking." To honor my newfound adventurous spirit, I signed up for an activity that I had not tried before. It's called Nia . Nia is a fun, go-with-the-flow group cardio workout that combines martial arts, dance, and healing arts. Based on the science of the body--you move as your body was designed to move--Nia's aim is to develop grace, power, and muscle tone as well as improve posture, balance, and stability.

I enjoyed Nia for many reasons. It's no secret that I value physical health, so no doubt the cardio benefits were high on my list. Having come to Nia fresh from thinking about my personal comfort zone--and its limits--I was also eager to try an activity that was for me something new, different, and exciting. But I also appreciated the uniqueness of this kind of workout. Though it's an activity performed with a group, it's also highly individualized and creative in that you do what you can do and as much as you'd like. That's both freeing and challenging, a workout that stretches you on more than one level but doesn't break your spirit.

I came away with more than just a one-session workout, though. I was fortunate to take classes with the founder of Nia, Debbie Rosas. Debbie gave me a take-away that I will remember for a long time and hope you will, too: "Your body is your logo. It is the brand of your well-being, your statement to the world, a reflection of your spirit that lives in every action you take, from sitting at your desk and standing and moving to anything and everything."

I know thinking of my body as a "logo" will help me be more mindful, more aware. What is the logo that you are projecting to the world through your energy and the way you hold and move your body?
