First, let's take a look at what ISN'T the answer:

  • Weight Lifting:Don't get me wrong here. There's nothing wrong with weight lifting. It's great for building muscle and strength.
  • Dieting:Let's face it. Most of the time, diets are fads and even when they aren't, you aren't going to stick to them. People don't like to feel deprived and that's exactly what a diet does.
  • Cardiovascular:Again, don't get me wrong. Cardiovascular exercise is very important. Not only does it help your heart and circulation, it also builds your lung capacity allowing your body to take in and process more oxygen.
  • Any type of general exercise:Again, this is important for your health but it won't help you develop thatV shaped torsothat you want.

So now you're going to say, "Okay, Bubba, you've told me what WON'T work - why don't you tell me what WILL work?" So glad you asked. :-)

What you really want is the swimmer's physique . Now, I can hear you asking, "What, I've got to spend four five or hours a day in a pool doing laps?" No, you don't. In fact, you don't even need to know how to swim. You can get a swimmer's body with a well tailored program that combines facets of all of the above practices that don't work alone. In fact, you can develop that sort of physique and be even more well defined muscularly than a swimmer. Swimming basically develops the pull muscles and once you've reached a certain point of development, that's it. You've plateaud out because you've reached the limit of the physical resistance that the water is going to provide you. Without increasing resistance you will not continue to develop and define your muscularity.

To make a long story short, I've recently comes across a program called The Swimmer's Body which is designed to help you develop thatV shaped torsothat you want. The program was developed and tested by top sports scientists and I, for one, am impressed with it. You owe it to yourself to give it a look.
