There is such wide-ranging advice on what constitutes 'healthy eating that it's difficult to know what to believe". However everyone understands and agrees that eating a balanced diet means that you're eating a variety of healthy foods preferably at different intervals through each day. What we can't do though is undo all of the good work by snacking on ice cream and high fat foods in the evening. However for too many people, when the sun goes down, so does their willpower. After maintaining great willpower and eating sensibly during the day, come evening, many people give in to temptation. The solution may surprise you but by eating more food of better quality during the day, combined with healthy snacking, you won't feel so hungry in the evening, and will find it much easier to snack less. Eating in the evening isn't necessary bad for you whilst many people believe that eating in the evening can be detrimental, especially if you are trying to lose weight, there's no conclusive medical evidence that this is the case. It appears that although we may burn fewer calories whilst we're sleeping, we don't necessarily store fat more effectively. Therefore it isn't about the time of day that we're eating that's so important, but the total number of calories that we're consuming daily that's the key to controlling our weight. Feeding Frenzy Statistics show not only are we eating more calories in our evening meal than other meals during the day, but when you also add in the snacking, the calories really start to stack up. There are many reasons for this including the fact that some people experience low blood sugar levels because of either not eating or infrequent nourishment. This leads to compensatory over-eating in the evenings. In addition we're leading busier lives, with less people taking a lunch break, and many others just grabbing something to eat, trying to survive on coffee or eating on the go. It's little surprise then that by the time evening comes people are exhausted and extremely hungry through lack of nourishment. And this is a pattern that continues day after day. Other important criteria include emotional ‘comfort eating' through boredom or reaching for junk foods or foods with high calories whilst watching TV or in front of the computer. Again these are easy habits to establish and we don't' notice how they become everyday activities. So we see that a comprehensive weight loss program is required.
