Researchers have shown that we waste about 80% time doing things that don't really help us succeed in our projects. We take up a lot of endless tasks which keep us busy most of the time and still wonder why we haven't been able to accomplish much.

What makes us miss deadlines, postpone things we don't like and accept procrastination and stress as an integral part of our lives? What experiences have contributed your outlook on time? Do you have to rethink your opinions? If you have to talk to some students about optimizing the use of time, what will you tell them?

This quiz shall help you identify the areas where you need to work on to overcome procrastination:

-I mostly delay acting on something and making decisions since I require more information.

-I find it difficult to know when I should finish the researching phase of my project. I worry that I would not have enough information to finish it.

-I often get stuck up in between my project if adjustments need to be made owing to changing circumstances.

-I always think that my time is being well-utilized as long as I am gathering details for a project.

In case you answered in the affirmative to any above-mentioned statement, you have to realize that procrastination is stopping you from everything that you can do in your life. Most people convince themselves that they require more information and delay taking action. People who succeed in life know that facts are not as important as opinions and experience when it comes to making effective decisions.

Set yourself deadlines, even when you do not require them. It will never be possible for you to collect all the information. You should learn when to stop. Make the right decision depending on the information you possess at the moment. To act is the important thing. We live in a world that’s increasingly complex; it is difficult for our techniques of gathering information to keep pace with the changing circumstances affecting our lives. It is not possible for us to control most of these circumstances or how others respond to these things.

Make yourself act. No matter what decision we take today, we'd have to think about it again-and most modify it most probably-when we encounter a change in circumstance. Whatever you decide on doing now, you'll have to correct yourself as you proceed towards your goal. Postponing a decision so that you can gather more information is the most common way of wasting your time.

Do not forget to ask yourself if you have to do a particular task at all. According to the Bible, "How forceful are right words! But what does your arguing prove? Question yourself: What does all my work prove? Focus on finishing your work instead of filling up your day with a lot of activities than you could possibly complete. If you wish to overcome procrastination, you should stop gathering information and start working on your project.
