Seminar organizers, group leaders, club officers, institution directors, and event planners are all representatives of a larger group. They may not be the actual buyers per se but, as representatives of their respective affiliations, they are the ones responsible for choosing and hiring the professional speakers. These individuals, most of the time, are choosy and very particular. They only want the best in the business.

It is very important to get the approving nod of these people. To do that, you must present yourself as an expert and an absolute professional in your field. Dealing with these folks is another thing. They may haggle speakers and canvass the competition thoroughly. However this should not deter you because if you are able to show that you are the specialist in the niche, then you will be perceived as the best person for the job.

Use marketing materials to promote your services

You can call every group you know, or shout in public, or tell every person you meet and inform them of your availability as a speaker. Still, it can only do so much and you will just be wasting your time and effort.

The best way to market oneself is through the use of marketing materials. These are brochures, pamphlet, flyers, demo tapes and so much more. These materials will help spread the word while also providing a bit of information about you and what you do. Your branding can be exhibited and your skills can be highlighted.

You may need help with the design for your materials and the cost may discourage you. But in truth, it is a sound investment for your speaking business so, don't overlook this aspect.

Understand the power of endorsement

Endorsement and testimonials are very powerful marketing tools. They make you or your product seem more credible and valuable.

Get endorsements as much as you can. Quality endorsements from celebrities and reputable people are great for your business. Getting these people to give your approval to your speeches or products will help your career take off.

With tricks and persistence, you can get these priceless endorsements. And when I say "priceless", I mean free, no money out of your pockets. Of course, always maintain integrity and don't make up any false claims.

Some events have great promotional value

Speakers would sometimes speak for free in certain events. Yes, even the relatively successful speakers may choose to speak without getting paid. This is because they recognize that some events have great promotional value for their business.

These events may generate a number spin-off bookings as result of an excellent complimentary performance. So do not hesitate to talk for free if the possible rewards are promising.

Networking

It is plain and simple. Network with the right people to increase your career possibilities. You are not only improving your chances to get booked you are also meeting relevant individuals while improving your understanding of your niche.
