The biggest benefit of having insurance of any kind is the peace of mind that comes with it. When you pay for insurance you are transferring part of your risk to the insurance company. For example, when you pay for health insurance, you are transferring the risk of someone in your family becoming sick or injured to the insurance company. They, in turn, will help pay your bills.

The cost you pay for insurance can vary by the amount of risk that is involved. For instance, if you wish to purchase life insurance to help your family pay your final costs and live without your income, and you're a smoker, you'll likely pay more than someone that has never smoked. You're putting yourself at a higher risk of death then the person that has never smoked. Another example might be auto insurance. If you have a record of being a safe driver with no speeding tickets or prior accidents, an insurance company will consider you to be a low risk and charge lower premiums.

Having renter's insurance is beneficial in helping to cover the costs of the items in your home. If you are a renter, the landlord is required to carry insurance on the property, but, in the event of a complete loss, your items will not be covered unless you cover them.

Having insurance will help cover you financially in your time of need. Insurance will assist you in paying medical bills, repairing damage to a vehicle and even help your family when you're no longer here to help them yourself.
