As a bridesmaid to either your sister or your best friend, you will find that your role in the day and the lead up to the wedding itself is not dissimilar to that of a best man. You have been asked to be a bridesmaid already so that gesture in itself is a great honor and one not to take lightly. It comes with responsibility and a huge weight on your shoulders. Luckily, you will know the bride well enough to have a bounty full of stories to tell about the bride during your speech.

Short and Sweet

Your best friend will expect a little sentiment in your speech, but if you are the joker of your group of friends, then be yourself. Try not to go too over the top with jokes that only a small select group will understand as the speech is for everyone. After all, you should be keeping your entire speech to a maximum of three minutes in length, which actually helps the situation, as you will have less likelihood of any prolonged silences. You can make the audience laugh but there is no need for any vulgarity, just small ditties that will raise a grin on even the grandparents' faces would be appreciated.

Talk About History

Explain how you know the bride and how long you have known each other. It might be a little giggle to explain how different her new husband is to the previous boyfriends that she brought home; this one does not suck his thumb or take a teddy bear to bed so it looks like she might be onto a winner! You can be as honest and frank as you wish to me, but always keep the tone of the speech very lighthearted. If anyone is to take it slightly too far, it should be the best man, so leave that kind of shame to him to handle.

Talk to others whom have had the pleasure of writing a best bridesmaid speech before, as they might be able to give you some tips. It is almost a guarantee that they will advise you to prepare, prepare and prepare some more. You can imagine just how red your face will turn if you decide to ad-lib and the words just do not come to you. The audience will think you are either blind, dumb or both if this happens – It might be amusing to those who know you but you will leave everyone else just looking confused.

Really think about what you would like to say and the message that you are writing for your very best friend. These are all words that she will treasure forever so there should always be some heartfelt sentiment in there. Finish with wishing the happy couple all the best luck for their future together and ask the audience to raise their glasses for a toast.

Thank you for the time you spent with me reading this article about best bridesmaid speeches ! I'd also love to meet you on my blog to have a chance to tell you more about wedding speeches - actually you could start by browsing the category page for bridesmaid speeches right away - you will want to share it with others.
