Pharmaceutical engineering has made remarkable achievements in the field of medical science. It welcomes all the new and emerging technologies. Biotechnology is one such latest technology used by all pharmaceutical manufacturing industries and biotechnological plants. This technology has made possible to deal with various life threatening diseases. With the introduction of restorative proteins that are better called as biological medicating agents, several health defects can be eliminated. These therapeutic proteins are extracted from natural sources like plants and animals and they possess immense potential to heal the disease with minimal or no side-effects. According to latest reports, around 130 salutary proteins are now available in the pharmaceutical world market and several others are under their developmental stages. The discovery of human insulin that was the first recombinant therapeutic led to the fast growth of branches related to production and development of pharmaceuticals. Biotechnological plants are focusing more on the production of therapeutic proteins that has immense potential to cure several diseases. These proteins have a wide range of applications and are capable to cure blood clotting disorders, diabetes etc. Various human vaccines have also been developed to provide resistance against viral infections. Due to their potential to provide efficient solutions against various diseases, they are in a high demand. Theoretically, every living organism can be considered as the potential source of therapeutics. But only few sources are availed for the extraction of these medications. The most prominent among them is Escherichia coli, a bacterium which can be easily operated as various studies related to its growth characteristics are already examined. They provide better transformation process so that sufficient quantities of proteins can be cultivated from them. Hence, biotechnological plants are concentrating more on the production of these proteins.
