Try googling “adult care”, or “in home healthcare” and you will find hundreds of listings regarding assisted living facilities, or nursing homes. The reason there are so many choices is partly due to the fact that these places make money. Yes, they are offering a necessary service, but there are also making a bit of profit. As long as time, adult children, world wide, have taken care of their aging parents in some form or another. Whether that means having the parent move into the family home or into an assisted living facility- there are endless choices for adult care. Several factors will greatly affect what families will choose to do, including:
• Money • The aging parent’s age and condition • Relationship
Depending on your family’s current economic state will depend on how much outside care you will be able to pay for. If money is not a problem, there are several choices of assistant living facilities or adult care services you and your aging parents can choose from. Other options include senior apartments which are for more independent seniors, include healthcare, personal training or nurses either within the senior apartment complex or very close by.
If money is a problem, you still have choices, but your choices are a bit more limited. Instead of full time care at a nursing home, or assisted living facility, you may be able to afford adult day care or have a nurse check in a couple times a week to check on your aging parents.
Depending on your relationship with your parents, you may be interested in having them live with you and they may be interested in having you care for them verses someone they do not know. If you plan on caring for your parents, there is something called a “caregiver agreement” which is a contract in this country that allows relatives to be hired to care for their aging relatives. This can be an attractive option for all parties involved: aging parents get to be cared for by their children and or stay in their home and the adult children can be compensated for their time and resources.
The New Wave of Adult Children Taking Care of Their Parents Besides the economy, several adult children find that if they are able to be the caregiver for their parents, an extra piece of mind knowing their parents are well cared for under their watchful eye verses “just any” assisted living facility caregiver is often the reason adult children apt to take care of relatives verses trusting others to give the best care possible. If you want to give the best care to your aging parents but time isn’t something you are able to give, do your research and look into a senior living facilities agency to help your family find a place for your aging relatives that you can all agree on no matter what your circumstances.
