In the world of gardening the proper term used for breaking ground would be cultivating or even better, tilling. It is said that in order to yield a healthy harvest the soil has to be in the proper condition and more importantly, fertile. One way to insure that the soil is fertile is to run it through a tilling process. Tilling is vital in the process of gardening because it requires the farmer to break up the hard top layer of the soil to uncover the fresh soil underneath. To maximize the opportunity of a good harvest the farmer must make sure he tills the ground properly. I imagine the tilling process is the hardest part of gardening because of all the physical labor that it demands. Those of us who are consistently working towards our harvest season, encounter this very same thing but on a spiritual level. I think most of you would agree with me when I say that life has a way of making things hard for us. As soon as we think we have our spirituality somewhat figured out, God will allow things to happen to show us how much deeper we need to go in Him. In a spiritual sense, tilling represents our faith, meditation, study and prayer life. All of the aforementioned enrich our relationship with the Father. The life that God wants for us is like that rich soil beneath the surface that is waiting to be exposed. He wants to drop seeds of prosperity into our lives but our spiritual hearts must be prepared to receive them and our lives must be equipped to nurture them. It’s no secret that God wants to expose himself to us, but it is his desire that we dig deeper to find the treasures he has set aside for each of us to enjoy. Our prayer, study and meditation are three tilling tools that will aid us in breaking ground and uncovering the abundance that God has promised us.
