Allergy is a reaction of our immune system to foreign substances. These foreign substances that bring about allergies are called "allergens". People who are likely to be havingallergiesare said to be allergic or sometimes called atopic. The risk factor of developing allergies is mainly due to genetics. It is hereditary meaning allergies can be inherited from your parents or grandparents and it can happen at any age. The most common that can causeallergiesare pollen from flowers of trees during summer, spring and fall. What is a pollen grain? Pollen grains are powdery particles found on flowers that consist of microgametophytes. They are sperms for fertilization that makes seeds of plants. Pollen grains are for pollination and reproduction purposes. They are very small that sometimes can not be seen by our naked eye. One can avoid allergic foods, medicines or animals but with pollen you have a smaller chance because they are airborne. The wind and insects could carry pollen grains and because they are small it could even enter your house with closed windows or doors. Most pollen that causes allergic reactions can be found on simple plants such as trees, grasses and weeds around. They do not have beautiful flowers but they make smaller and lighter pollen grains that can be carried by the wind up to 400 miles far and 2 miles high in the air. We can often hear people say that they are allergic to pollen. These are seasonal allergies. An allergist can help you determine if you have this kind of allergy. It can also figure out if what kind of plants or pollen are you allergic with. Allergy testing could determine from that particular month you will experience seasonal allergy.
