Cheating might knock more than a little bit of the wind out of your sails but you can get back on course and sail right and true even after cheating has taken a toll on your relationship. It might be hard to see the other side of the storm when you're right in the middle of it but there is a bright shiny day on the other side of this storm. You just have to have the tenacity and sheer strength of will to sail through it.
How do You Stay on Course?
This is a trick question really. Sometimes you simply cannot stay on the original course you mapped out for yourself and your relationship. You have to be able to adjust as you go and make the necessary changes or course corrections along the way.
When the wind kicks up or the clouds look ominous the best thing you can do is find a way to work around the thunderstorms and get back to smoother sailing. There are times when there is just a tidal wave of emotion or pain from which there seems to be no escape. You'll just have to learn to ride these waves and make adjustments on the other side.
Cheating is one of those tidal wave storms. The thing is, you might discover on the other side of the tidal wave that you're in a better place to make changes or course corrections for the better than where you started. Cheating does not have to be the one wave that pulls you, and your relationship, under.
Mending the Sails
Adjusting course is important but you must also take a little bit of time to mend the sails. Gusty winds on the high seas can really take the wind out of your sails or limit your sails ability to handle the wind that comes along. They are too important to leave unattended.
In relationship the sails can be any number of issues.
* Trust * Patience (or lack thereof) * Understanding * Communication * Love * Commitment * Loyalty
These are all important for relationships. If you don't mend them now they will become even bigger problems in the not so distant future. Your job now is to get to work mending these sails. Whether you need relationship counseling or decide to take the plunge and work things out together you are both going to have to work at making things better this time around.
