(Note: Determine if this is politically correct for your audience.)

You can throw in a cute diversion to a boring public speaking engagement by attributing a saying to an ancient Chinese philosopher. Since these sayings are not attributed to anyone in particular, feel free to change or update them to fit your situation and to enhance their humor.

(The term 'original' here means as original as something can be after being recited and translated for several hundred...

The last thing you want in public speaking is to leave your audience abruptly hanging without the knowledge that you have concluded. In my previous article, I discussed the need for signaling the end of your talk. The 2nd criterion, however, involves reinforcing your central idea.

The most common closings are:

1. Briefly Summarizing Your Development.

If you have a few subtopics, then you could end your speech or presentation by briefly listing those subtopics which all...

Do you have a really high pitch squeaky voice and is wondering how can you can make it sound deeper? Well if you are still going though puberty, then your voice will probably broke and deepen with time. However, so many people who have passed puberty still have high pitch voices.

If you have a high pitched voice, and have already passed puberty, then there are some few things you can do so as to naturally deepen your voice and make it sound lower.

Many people will...

How do you attract positive attention and draw a sizeable crowd to you?

This is a question I ask myself when I did my first book talk in KL . Unfortunately, I could not find any credible or relevant information that answers this burning question of mine. In times like this, I improvise.

The good news issomework and I will like to share them with you.

Here are the workable ones that have been refined after three book talks.

1. A crowd attracts a bigger...

What is your reaction the moment you hear the word outline? If your instant reaction is a negative one, perhaps you have never actually learned how to outline properly, or maybe your previous experiences with writing have re-established less-than-fond memories. Whatever the reason, you are not alone – a lot of people hate outlining. This hatred is unfortunate, because when applied properly, outlines can save you much time and can help you develop a great deal of better...

One of the most colorful speakers on the public speaking circuit today is Zig Ziglar.  The man uses his Southern drawl for great effect (and he knows it) and is the master of dragging out his words.  He will ‘lay’ on the words; he will drawl them out; and he does it to perfection by means of duration.

Duration is the extension or continuance of sound in the articulation of a word.

The injured man dra-a-agged (dragged) his leg as he crawled out of the...

Public speaking presents such a challenge for many people.  In the Book of Lists, the fear of public speaking and making a presentation constitute the number one fear; the fear of dying is number two.  Like the old saying goes, “People would rather be in the grave than make a presentation.”  You see people sweat, shake, and quiver while they are speaking.  Sometimes, employees bypass promotions, and business owners bypass business opportunities rather...

If you have never spoken in public before you more than likely dread the thought of it, or if you have had a bad experience you may now have a crisis of confidence. Let me assure you these fears and more can be overcome. Here are the most common:-

  • Fear of drying up
  • Fear of forgetting
  • Fear of going on too long
  • Fear of boring people
  • Fear of not sounding right
  • Fear of trembling hands and trembling voice
  • Fear of having a weak...

If you want to be respected more, get more dates and be taken more seriously, the tone of your voices has to be able to reflect all the above qualities. Do not expect people to give you any good respect if you have a squeaky voice or talk in a very high pitched voice tone. So learning how to deepen your voice will be a good thing to do, if you don't naturally have that deep, strong and sexy voice that everyone loves to listen to.

The best and most effective way to learn how...

As difficult as it may seem, there are plenty of organizations in your community who are actively looking for speakers.Despite the fact that there are already a lot of good speakers out there, starting a personal speaking business is still very feasible and very likely to be profitable.

A very good and practical way to begin is to start locally.Network with local groups and organizations that have the potential to be prospective clients. They may not want your services now but...
