Through my many years in the voice business, I have learned more from my clients than any book or theory on voice. What has been extremely fascinating is what I have discovered as to why we sound the way we sound. It didn't start out as study, rather it is the years I spent listening to my clients and asking them one specific question, "Do you sound like your mom or your dad?" Just like fingerprints, voices are very individual: no two are exactly alike but they can be very...

It never ceases to amaze me the theory that the speaking voice can benefit from vocal warm-ups. While the theory is absolutely a must for the singing voice, the same cannot and should not be attempted for the speaking voice.

What do most people do all day long either in their jobs, in their social lives, or among their family? They talk. Some talk more than others. Whether we are speaking in a face-to-face situation, talking on the telephone, or addressing a group of people,...

One of the most critical public speaking tips is to understand your audience. Do your homework by asking the organizers of the events for a breakdown of the audience in terms of gender, age, interest and knowledge levels.

Even if you have spoken at similar events before, do not take a chance on being able to presume who your audience may be.

A recent Flash Developer conference held in Minneapolis made huge waves in the computer community in the USA, spilling over...

There are more and more folks in our communities today who are looking for ways to get a deep voice . This is due to that fact that people with deep voices generally command more respect and are admired more. There is really no doubt about this: The way you speak helps the people to whom you are talking to, to generate an impression of who you really are, and how you are felling at the time of talking. If you are not confident, or is afraid, your voice will generally sound kind of...

You have two voices. The first of the two is the natural relaxed one that Mother Nature gave you at birth. The second and more familiar voice is an encumbered and distorted version of the first. For the sake of discussion let's refer to these as your "true" voice and your "cluttered" voice.

Your natural sound (your true voice) is the sum total of the shape and size of your vocal cords, sinus cavities, throat, nose, teeth and tongue as well as your breathing...

The verbally facile among us were not born with the ability to think and speak fluidly. Their skill is the respond of practice and a desire to appear articulate and in control. Here are three ways to practice your quick-thinking skills so you can appear more verbally fluid yourself.

ODD QUESTIONS

Print out the following questions and cut them apart, trying not to look at the actual words. A week later, turn on your tape records, take on of the questions, and respond to it....

Before we go into; how to get a deep voice , I want to briefly give you some advantages of getting a deep, strong and sexy voice. As you may already know, the society we leave in today is a very observant one. People usually will judge and analysis you based on wide ranging factors and aspects. And believe it or not, the tone of your voice in one of the most important factors that people use to investigate what a person you are and how you are felling at that given moment of talking.

One of the most frequent questions I hear is how do I tell my spouse, my friend, or a colleague that they need to improve their speaking voice? This really is a tough issue because if you approach someone advising them that their speaking voice needs some work, they are probably going to be offended.

If we had the ability to hear ourselves the way everyone else does, this would not be an issue. Unfortunately, how we sound to the outside world is not how we sound inside our head...

Everyone can find the right words - all it takes is practice and some guidelines to help you structure an effective presentation.

Firstly, and most importantly, start with the end in mind. Set aside enough time to determine yourpurpose and intentionin preparing and presenting your speech. Your purpose may be to entertain, to educate, to inform, to persuade or even a combination of the fore mentioned. A clearly defined purpose is a blueprint or a template that structures a...

There is nothing I like better than an all female public speaking audience. All female audiences tend to laugh more easily and louder than all male audiences. All-male audiences are the toughest because the male ego gets in the way of laughter. They look around to see if anyone else is laughing before they laugh, and they won't laugh as loud because they think they will look less powerful.

If you speak to an all-male audience it is more critical to bond and be "one of the...
