When people think of hair loss, they usually picture an older man who has lost his hair or has a receding hair line. However hair loss isn't just for men. Many women have hair loss as well. There is more than one cause of female hair loss. It can come from infections and illnesses, hormones and even genetics. Infections and illnesses are just one of the vast reasons a woman can lose her hair. Folliculitisis is also a major cause of hair loss in women, which starts out as just an inflammation of the hair follicle. This can present itself as a red bump on the scalp. It can also be red and itchy. If not treated, it turns into an infection that can permanently damage the hair follicle, meaning that hair will never grow there again. The good news is that it is easily remedied with an antibiotic ointment. Another infection that can cause hair loss is scalp ring worm. This is most common in children but is highly contagious so it can spread to adults, especially parents. This condition is also very treatable. Even major illnesses or surgery can cause your hair loss problems. Even major traumas to the body, such as with a car accident, can bring on hair loss on as well. Surprisingly, even losing someone that is very close to you can make you lose your hair. Hormones are another reason women lose their hair. This can happen for many reasons. Menopause is a big reason women lose their hair. When women go through this change in their life their hormones fluctuate. Even after giving birth women can lose their hair as their bodies try to get back to normal. Even birth control pills can upset a woman's hormone balance and cause hair loss. Even conditions such as ovarian cysts, which make your hormones go crazy due to their placement on your ovaries, can cause you to lose your hair. Hair loss from hormonal imbalances will more than likely go away on their own once your hormones go back to where they should be. Genetics also play a big role in hair loss. Female pattern baldness is hereditary and comes from your mother's side of the genes. So if your mother was bald and her mother was bald, chances are you will also suffer from hair loss. There are many treatments for this type of hair loss and even tests to determine if you carry the gene that will make you lose your hair. These are just some of the many causes of female hair loss. It can also be brought on my stress, depression, tight hairstyles and certain medical conditions. It can be brought one by any of these factors or even a combination of factors which can make pin pointing the exact cause of your hair loss tricky. There are many types of treatments for the many types of hair loss. This should help women suffering from hair loss problems sleep easier at night.
