When it comes to the opinions and theories of medical professionals and the causes of tinnitus, you can expect to hear an array of opinions. The majority of each opinion can be very well supported in one way or another.

However, it is quite hard to determine the reason a specific individual has tinnitus and why another does not. Here are some of the main causes of tinnitus, as believed by many.

The overwhelming majority of medical professionals seem to be in agreement with tinnitus being a symptom of another ear related disorder. Generally speaking, there are a few different ear related disorders that can be linked to tinnitus.

For example, a blocked ear canal, ear infection or a blocked Eustachian tube could be the cause of your tinnitus. Other commonly thought causes for tinnitus are Meniere's disease, Otosclerosis, drug related damage, loss of hearing or trauma to the ear and or ear canal.

It is also believed other causes of tinnitus are issues with the arteries, high blood pressure, anemia, thyroid issues and age. In general, if you have one of these conditions it does not necessarily indicate you will be suffering from tinnitus in the future.

One of the most common questions about the causes of tinnitus is related to heredity. Many people want to know if they will pass this condition on to their children and possibly their grandchildren. Although there are some cases where hereditary tinnitus has seemed to be the cause, it is extremely rare.

Determining the cause of your tinnitus is not pertinent to your treatment in most cases. There are several options for treatment that are available. In most cases you can choose the treatment you want to use, with your medical care provider's approval.

Among the most popular treatments are medications. The medications can be antidepressants to antihistamines, which will be determined by your doctor. Alternative treatments vary as well, some people opt to use meditation classes while others utilize acupuncture with great success.

Many people are able to tolerate and live with their tinnitus by modifying their daily activities. This usually includes limiting the amount of stress they are subjected to on a daily basis, not being around extremely loud noises and even making sure they get plenty of rest.

Others have been successful in limiting their tinnitus by quitting smoking and no longer consuming alcohol. There isn't a direct connection with smoking as one of the causes of tinnitus, however quitting seems to bring relief in many sufferers.
