Acai berry dietary supplements have been causing a media sensation lately. With increasing reports of Hollywood stars using acai berry supplements, acai is apparently the new must-have accessory of the rich and famous. But apart from the kudos of using a product endorsed by your favorite film star, does acai berry actually have any health benefits for you?

Yes, is the simple answer!

The humble acai berry has been used as a dietary supplement for thousands of years. Way back in the mists of time, the indigenous people of South America consumed acai berries in large quantities and it was a staple part of their diet. It is only in recent times that the scientific and medical communities are starting to rediscover the amazing health benefits of the acai berry.

What health benefits can acai berry offer us today?

Acai berry has lots of health benefits—it is packed full of antioxidants, omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, amino acids, and many other nutrients. Not only can it help to protect you against killer diseases including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, it can alleviate the symptoms of degenerative illnesses like arthritis.

It can also help with weight loss. As millions of Americans struggle with their weight and more than 70% of 12 year olds are showing the early symptoms of obesity, the acai berry is at the front-line in the battle to re-educate the public about their unhealthy dietary habits.

Acai berry is known as a superfood—a food so rich in nutrients and natural goodness, it can seriously improve your health when consumed as part of a healthy diet. Obviously, if everything else you eat can be classed as junk food, simply adding some acai berry juice to your diet is not going to help! But using acai berry as a healthy alternative to other, less healthy foods, will definitely make a difference. It is a proven appetite suppressant and it also helps to regulate blood sugar levels. This in turn prevents the insulin spikes that convert excess blood sugar into fat. The omega 3 fatty acids in acai also help to boost the metabolism, thus allowing you to burn more calories.

Other health benefits include a reduction in the effects of aging, improved vision, and an increase in libido—acai is commonly referred to as the ‘rainforest approdisiac"

So for once we can actually believe what the celebrities are telling us—acai berry
