Insomnia supports range from drinking warm milk to counting sheep as you attempt to drift off to sleep, to full-on medical sleep studies. But choosing the one that works best for you may require a little bit of trial and error. If you're willing to do a little experimentation and log some data, you can see what really helps your insomnia and what does not.

Method Number One: Valerian

As an insomnia support, Valerian is very common and has been used safely for centuries. Some brands of sleep aids contain Valerian, but the most effective way is to use it by itself. Valerian comes in capsule form or in powdered form. Some people find the taste of Valerian to be off putting, so consider taking it with a sweet tasting soft drink.

Some people tend to build up a tolerance to Valerian, making it less effective. Thankfully, this herb promotes good sleeping patterns, meaning that it will help you get back into your natural rhythm without relying on taking it every night. Additionally Valerian is inexpensive and is made from a plant, making it more appealing to many than prescription drugs made by people in laboratories.

Method Number Two: Sleep Studies

Sleep studies, as an insomnia support, are very effective for many people. Being evaluated by a doctor is a good way to identify patterns in your life such as drinking caffeine too late in the day. The advice of a medical professional is just what some people need to feel confident of the method they employ to battle their bouts of insomnia.

The downside to sleep studies is that you do have to sleep somewhere other than home on at least one night, which can be difficult for many. Also, wearing the electrodes that monitor what you're doing before and during sleep can be uncomfortable. For other people, however, this is a very acceptable and effective solution.

Method Number Three: Ebooks

There are many many ebooks relating to the subject of sleeplessness. As options go, this is inexpensive and convenient. Often, these ebooks offer a helpful newsletter with tips on combating insomnia. For some, the appeal of ebooks is low but you should consider that ebooks can be purchased and read instantly, a prime time being when you can't sleep. Rather than have to wait to buy a product or go to the doctor's office and pharmacy, you can have a solution in front of you. Another bonus to this solution is that your schedule, diet and daily routine can be gently modified and ebooks can be updated online easily.

Whichever method you decide to employ as an insomnia support, consider keeping track of your sleep with a journal. In summation, three methods to consider for your insomnia are as follows:
