The complexity of drug addiction often involves the association of psychological and emotional disorders with chemical imbalance. It is indeed a complex illness that requires careful observation of the patient, and the precise scheming and execution of the different kinds of treatments possible to treat it.

Choosing the right drug addiction recovery center is critical to dealing with such complexity of drug addiction. Yet the selection process itself is also complex. To ensure the recovery of the patient, there are many things that have to be considered in choosing the right drug recovery center for him.

For the sake of practicality, many concerned families and friends consider foremost the cost of the treatment. Drug addiction is one problem that chooses nobody. The rich, the middle class and even the poor can be hooked into drugs. No problem for those who can afford the treatment but for those who can't, the cost of the treatment would be a big factor.

Another aspect to consider is the duration of the treatment. The family of the patient or the patient itself has to consider how long the treatment will take if it's just short-term or long-term. It is also right to ask whether the recovery program also offers extended care for the outpatient once he goes out of the drug addiction recovery center.

It is also important to consider the appropriateness of the patient to the recovery program. Often, the age and gender of the patient influences his responses to the recovery program along with his relationship with other patients in the center. So, it is important to choose the drug addiction recovery center that truly fits his sexuality and maturity.

One more thing to consider is the distance of the drug recovery center from the people who are not supposed to be seen by the patient anymore. It truly helps though if the concerned family and friends of the patient are able to visit him regularly to make him feel that he still valuable to them. Usually, the visitors have to sacrifice their time for a long-distance travel to the center. In this way, the patient will not become accessible to the people who led him to addiction. Having any form of contact with these people may only re-trigger the addiction of the patient.

The most important factor to consider in choosing the right drug recovery center is the nature and philosophy of the drug recovery program. The different types of recovery programs for drug addicts include in-patient, out-patient and local support groups. Drug rehabilitation also involves different approaches ranging from psychoanalytic therapy, pharmacotherapy and client-centered approach. Many drug recovery centers are also into the famous twelve-step recovery program. The philosophy of recovery programs is based on the disease model of addiction while others target emotional regulation of the patient.

In the end, what's crucial amidst all these different philosophies of treatments is to aim for a holistic recovery program that could address the psychological, physiological and emotional disorders of the patient. In this way, recovery would become more effective and sustainable.
