Hair extensions are lengths of hair, either synthetic or natural, that are attached to the scalp to add volume to the hair. Extensions are ideal for people who are affected by hair loss or hair thinning problems. Extensions come in different colors and texture and there are different methods for applying them. You can find the right colors that are like the color of your hair. The colors have a range. Color number one is the darkest shade of black. There can be a mixture of colors for example black and brown. If your hair has a mixture of two or more colors then you can find extensions more or less like yours. Texture is also important when choosing the right extension. Hair texture varies from straight to kinky to curly. Europeans and Asians have straight hair whilst Africans have kinky or curly hair. Knowing the color and texture of the extension will aid in choosing the one that best simulates your hair. There are numerous methods that are used to apply extensions. There is braiding, weaving, bonding as well fusing. In braiding, the extensions are integrated by plaiting them together with the hair. Twisting and locking as well as corn rowing applying the same method of plaiting together with the hair. Weaves are a bit different from braids and cornrows in that it cannot be seen where they were integrated. Weaves can be washed and combed like hair. However, the hair itself is difficult to wash as well as dry. If not applied properly, weaves can tend to break the hair. This occurs, especially when there is tugging of the hair and when there is a lot of tension. It can also cause discomfort. Bonding is the same as braiding in that its attachment cannot be seen. In this method, the extensions are glued on to the hair. Although easy to apply, removing the extensions may prove to be a task. The glue has to melt which means heat has to be applied. The method that has proven to be a favorite amongst people and hair extensionists is fusing the extensions. Fusing is done with a special type of glue. This glue does not melt during treatments that involve heat or chemicals. This means you can keep treating your hair with no problem. The extensions are removed by applying a remover that turns the glue to powder, which can easily be washed off. Hair extensions need to be taken care of. A hair extensionist can advise you on how best to take care of your extensions, which depends on the type, texture and method of application. A mild shampoo is usually suitable for extensions as well as a light conditioner. You can be shown different methods of brushing or combing the extensions. Some extensions do not tolerate heat, thus care must be taken when drying or styling. It is always best to consult a certified and experienced extensionist, who will advise on the different extensions. This way, you will be able to find the hair extensions that are perfect for you and won't damage your hair.
