If your life is feeling out of control and you begin to wonder if you even have any say at all in what you do, it could be because you are not really living your life. Many people end up living other people's lives and have no idea they are even doing it. Now I am not talking about psychological mumbo jumbo here, but rather about people who choose careers, raise children and even attend churches because someone else thinks that is what would be best for them.

I am not a Psychologist, Psychiatrist or any kind of..ist for that matter.

But, I do talk to a lot of people about their jobs. When I talk to people about their jobs the conversation will often turn to other areas of their life. Why? Because as much as we try, we cannot separate our careers from our lives and to have a fulfilling life, we much have a fulfilling career. One of the common themes I hear from people is that they got into their career because their dad or their mom wanted them to, not because they thought it was best career for them.

Of course I'm living my own life, aren't I?

The best thing a person can do to evaluate their life is ask one simple question: Why? Why do work where I work? Why do I discipline my kids they way that I do? Why or why don't I go to church? Why is simply the best question in the world because if you just keep asking it, you will eventually get to the root of your question. You will get to the point where you won't be able to ask why any more. At that point, you will have your answer. It requires honesty but it will also be freeing. With a little effort, you will be able to be in control and live your own life.
