Tooth whitening is vastly becoming a common and effective dentistry procedure with lasting effects on leaving you with a perfect white smile.
Many people are still persisting with off the shelf products that simply do not work as well as cosmetic whitening does that is performed by a dentist. Unfortunately these products generally do not last long enough to leave you satisfied and can also lead to heightened sensitivity.
Prior to any bleaching procedure, we spend a significant amount of time using preventive therapies to reduce chance and severity of sensitivity. There is also a long-term follow up protocol to ensure the whitening is maintained.
Your dentist can usually offer three main methods of tooth whitening, these are; Constructing custom made bleaching stents to hold the bleaching agent in the correct position against your teeth. This can be a very long and boring procedure as it can involve wearing the stents for one to three hours every day and sometimes over night for up to two weeks.
Your dentists preferred system is an in office procedure that achieves dramatic results within two hours. During this process the teeth bleaching agent is activated by a strong light. This is a very quick and efficient procedure which can lead to quick results and leaving you feeling satisfied with your smile the same day.
The last technique is used specifically for the situation of a “dead” tooth that has changed colour. Bleach can be placed internally to dramatically whiten and brighten the single crown.
If you feel that you could benefit from tooth whitening then do not hesitate in contacting your dentist to discuss how teeth whitening could help you.
