There is a certain room in the Latter-day Saint meeting house called a cultural hall. A cultural hall could be the church gym, usually used to play basketball or other indoor sports. Most LDS churches in North America are equipped with this type of room. A cultural hall could also be a larger room for meetings and other gatherings. These rooms are also known as multi-purpose rooms. Many LDS weddings are performed in holy temples. The receptions for these weddings usually take place in the gym or cultural hall of the meeting house where even those who were not able to attend the temple ceremony can attend. Artwork is often displayed, flowers, trimmings, and other festive decorations adorn these multi-purpose rooms. Sometimes artwork is displayed for primary meetings or ward and other church activities. Usually these rooms do not have LDS art hanging on the walls because members in the local areas use these facilities for athletic competition like basketball, dodge ball, or even volleyball. Many of these gyms also have a nice stage where road shows can be performed, a popular pastime for Mormons. Multi purpose rooms are large rooms such as LDS Relief Society or rooms for priesthood meetings or where large gathering can occur. Sometimes this room has LDS artwork hanging on the walls. This room is not for the sacrament and is not a chapel so it is generally alright to hang LDS art. You might find paintings of the Savior when he was teaching the sermon on the mount, or even Jesus showing himself to Mary when he was resurrected. Most of this type of artwork was painted by Harry Anderson, a well known artist for the Mormon faith. For ward functions, activities or other types of events, the gym or cultural hall is available and you can be as creative as you would like and can hang on the walls many types of art and artwork. The multi-purpose room has more permanent art so whatever is chosen should be of a more spiritual nature and the bishopric will approve or disapprove the choices made.
