Curing Tinnitus
It’s 2.30 in the morning, everyone else is asleep, you have to be up at 6.30 for work. The only thing preventing you from getting to sleep is the incessant, relentless ringing in your ears. Any tinnitus sufferer who has been in this situation will tell you it is unbearable.
For those of you who have consulted your doctor for tinnitus have probably heard the words “there’s nothing we can do, you will have to learn to live it”. This is UNTRUE. Nobody should have to ‘put up’ with this insufferable condition and guess what- you don’t.
What Is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus, or ‘tinnire’ in latin, is a noise that is heard in the ears or head without an external source causing it. Most common noises are ringing, whistling, hissing, buzzing, clucking, cracking or roaring and could be caused by a number of things such as-
Head trauma- blows to the head have been known to start tinnitus. Mild or severe. Anything from banging your head on a cupboard door to hitting your windscreen in a car accident.
Noise exposure- Prolonged exposure to loud noise or even a single high-frequency noise can damage the cochlea, the shell-like part of the inner ear, which can cause tinnitus.
Ear or sinus infections- These infections can cause a mucous build up in your inner ear damaging the cochlea.
Earwax- believe it or not, an excessive amount or earwax has been known to cause tinnitus. Never use cotton buds to clean your ears as this actually pushes more wax deeper into your ear instead of removing it.
Stress, anxiety and depression- traumatic events in your life can also trigger tinnitus symptoms. Deaths, divorces, redundancies can all increase stress and anxiety levels significantly. Once tinnitus starts, failure to control your symptoms can make the noise worse as is sends you into more anxiety and depression.
Medication- Some anti-depressants, aspirin containing medications and antibiotics have been linked to tinnitus. Some people have an allergic reaction to these medicines and amongst the side-effects is tinnitus.
Age- as we get older, most people experience some degree of hearing loss. Unfortunately, as we lose our hearing some sound pitches can seem louder than before causing tinnitus.
Tinnitus Cures
There are a number of tinnitus cures that you can try, maybe not just one will work and they might not happen overnight. You have to be persistent and patient with a bit of trial and error.
Natural Tinnitus Cure
Diet- What you eat can have an effect on your tinnitus. Maintaining a healthy, well-balanced diet will reduce stress levels and boost your immune system.
Reduce stress- everyday stress can be very detrimental to your tinnitus. Getting stressed at work or at home is a problem 99% of the population have to deal with.
Exercise- regular, everyday exercise is very important in curing tinnitus. At least half an hour a day is recommended.
Homeopathic treatments- very effective in curing tinnitus and without some of the side effects you can get with some medications.
More Tinnitus Cures
Hypnotherapy- People who see results with hypnotherapy are usually suffering with tinnitus because of stress or head trauma.
Herbal treatments- commonly used in tinnitus therapy but only usually treat the symptom not the cause so should not be used as a permanent treatment.
Surgery- not the avenue i would personally recommend as there is no guarantee that it will work and i have even heard horror stories of it making symptoms worse.
Curing Tinnitus is a process
Curing tinnitus will not happen overnight and may take one, two or even ten different methods to finally cure you. But once you are ‘tinnitus free’ it is so worth the effort.
