Got very dry skin, itchy skin, red blotchy, scaling of the skin, looks awful, embarrassed to go out, always covering up, discomfort, constant itching and the need to scratch ? You may have eczema.  My baby had eczema at 6 weeks old, his skin was all red, sore, blotchy and it looked very sore at first I thought it may have been heat rash or an allergy to a food he ate, but when I took him to the doctors she said he has Eczema.

Ways to prevent eczema itching….

Dealing with Eczema in the heat

Keeping the house cool especially in the bedrooms during the night helps prevent the Eczema from itching, it is usually at night the scratching starts without you being aware you are scratching.

During winter when the heating is on, keeping the air moist can help, I either put a bowl of water under the radiators or when I dry the wet clothes like putting the wet towels on the radiators, this can moisten the air.

Cotton bedding and cotton clothes for Eczema

Cotton and linen material for bedding- sheets, duvet covers, pillows and clothes is best for Eczema these are natural fibres that allow the skin to breath,  Wash clothes with non bio washing powder to avoid any skin irritation.

Create a cool breeze

During the summer we keep the windows open for fresh air to cool the rooms down and when it is very hot try using a cooling fan during the night.  Do not use thick duvet covers during the heat, thin cotton sheets are best.

Keep the skin moist

Remember to keep the skin moist at all time, even if it means moisturizing four times a day, this is very important to stop eczema itching.  If you have very dry skin you can moisturize before you bath and straight after the bath.
