It has become harder than ever for most people to cope with challenges on the job given the difficult economy nowadays. Both the stress we take with us when we go to work and the stress that awaits us on the job are on the rise – and employers, managers, and workers all feel the added pressure. We have to take note that while some stress is a normal part of life, excessive stress interferes with your productivity and reduces your physical and emotional health, so it’s important to find ways to keep it under control.

Most people like you are worried about losing their job. So, in attempt to avoid such situation from happening, you will try to work harder than you ever have before. You stay at your desk working hard into the evening and you get to work very early in the morning. However, you must be careful as you could be making yourself sick and stress out. Overworking is one of the leading causes of job stress and many people do not realize it until it is too late. No matter how you hate your job or simply love your work, we all have experienced work burn out at some time or another. Daily work routines and mundane job tasks can become a chore to us and we will become burden with job stress.

What is Job Stress?

Job stress is a condition that we all face as workers and different people will handle it differently. There is no getting around it. However, you must know that not all stress is bad and we should learn to deal with and manage stress as this is critical to maximizing our job performance. One or more of a host of physical and mental illnesses manifests job stress. In some cases, job stress can be disabling. In chronic cases a psychiatric consultation is usually required to validate the reason and degree of work related stress.

The first step to being happier in your job is realizing you are burning out.

Symptoms of Job Stress

  • Insomnia
  • Loss of mental concentration,
  • Anxiety, stress
  • Absenteeism
  • Depression,
  • Substance abuse,
  • Extreme anger and frustration,
  • Family conflict
  • Physical illnesses such as heart disease, migraine, headaches, stomach problems, and back problems.

You'll need to be proactive if you want to cure your job stress. Next, to cure your job stress totally, you need to get to the root of the problem, i.e. you need to know what causes job stress.

What are the Causes of Job Stress?

9/10 people agree that job stress results from the interaction of the worker and the work's conditions. Nonetheless, views might differ on the importance of worker characteristics versus working conditions as the primary cause of job stress. The different perspectives are important because they suggest different ways to prevent stress at work.

According to a research by medical professionals and scientists, the personality traits and coping style of individual characters are most important in predicting whether certain job conditions will result in stress - in other words, what is stressful for one person may not be a problem for someone else.

How To Cure Job Stress?

Looking into stress management in the workplace, we need more than helpful tips. What we need is to learn from experience and learn ways to manage stress effectively. We have been pulled in multiple directions by the changing economic times. The pressures and demands between work and personal life are blurred. As a result, the consequences of stress in the workplace come from what is happening to each of us both on and off the job.

One of the best ways to manage stress in the workplace is to take interval breaks frequently. This means that you must try to give yourself a short break for approximately every 15 minutes or so and avail yourself of a break of a few minutes about every hour.

If you realize you are not able to focus completely somehow into your work, you should give your eyes a break and take a quick stretch break in your chair. Having such breaks will allow your brain to recover a little bit of energy and allow you to return to the task at hand.

My best method of relieving job stress at your workplace is to simply close your eyes and take deep breaths. The key to this technique is to teach yourself to avoid thinking about work while you are doing this breathing exercise. In fact, you should simply concentrate on your breathing. In essence, this is a form of meditation and it is a very good way to refresh your brainpower. This is because, when you are thinking about your breathing, you are thinking about almost nothing at all.

Always give yourself space to quiet down and relax. Calm your mind and body by doing deep breathing exercises. Tell yourself that everything can be done pacefully and make sure you eat well, sleep well and exercise often.
