Pretty much everyone has experienced, at some time or another, a fleeting ringing in their ears, at a minimum. Normally this goes away within a few seconds or minutes, but for some people the continual ringing in their ears stays around for good. This misery is known as tinnitus. However, this debilitating noise or /ringing-in-ears-symptoms" " ringing ears can more often be symptoms of a host of other conditions.

A ringing in the ears may be symptoms of anxiety, for example, and there are many different symptoms of anxiety. Those who have anxiety or experience panic attacks suffer these symptoms in many different ways. Ringing in the ears, or tinnitus, can be symptoms experienced by a good many people, but /ringing-in-ears-symptoms" " ringing in your ears does not mean you have anxiety. Ringing in the ears is also a symptom of some blood pressure issues and can also result from having high cholesterol levels. As cholesterol gathers in blood vessels and more specifically the blood vessels near the ear, the blood pressure can become more turbulent in its effort to push through some of the blockage. If you are hearing a ringing in your ear, a simple test would be to check your cholesterol level.

Having a ringing in your ear can also be symptoms of sinus problems or allergies. Medications like antibiotics and antihistamines are typically used to treat these conditions. These medications can make the mucous in the ear difficult for the body to drain which can lead to pressure build up, ear infections and ringing in the ears. Conditions like presbycusis or hearing loss associated with age, muscle tension, temporomandibular joint disorder, vitamin B12 deficiency and a thyroid disorder could also produce symptoms like ringing in the ear.

Ringing in the ears may also be symptoms of any one of the following conditions:

- Atherosclerosis - where the arteries narrow due to cholesterol build up

- Benign Intracranial Hypertension may also be the cause - due to raised pressure in the cerebrospinal fluid around the brain.

- Damaged nerve - specifically the nerve connecting the brain and the ear.

- Stress & Depression

- Meniere's Disease - due to associated unstable inner ear pressure

- Exposure to high pitched noise - particularly when in close proximity

- Intracranial vascular lesion - this condition can be very serious.

- Glomus tumor - around the blood vessels in the ear

- Acoustic Neuroma - which consists of a benign tumor

Noise heard within the ear is not limited to a ringing sound either - it can be a buzzing, whining, popping or even a static sound. The sound can be in both ears or just one ear. The treatment for this condition depends greatly on which condition /ringing-in-ears-symptoms" " ringing of the ears are symptoms of. Unfortunately in most cases, there is no conventional medical treatment for tinnitus and this fact has seen more and more people turning to alternative treatments. In fact the only real chance of conquering tinnitus permanently is through a holistic regime which involves a lifestyle transformation for many. Some of these changes may include a move to natural homeopathic treatments, a healthy diet, daily exercise, acupuncture, hypnosis and even implants.
